
Gluten Free Crispy Tofu sweet and sour
This recipe was one that we cooked at our last dinner party. Our guests loved this dish and could not believe that Tofu could taste so nice. They have also asked us to upload the recipe. So here it is 🙂
This recipe serves 2 people
For the Tofu:
1 block of tofu, cut in small squares
2tbsp of chinese salt and pepper seasoning
3tbsp cornflour
200ml of cooking oil ( To shallow fry)
For the Sauce:
3/4 Cup of Tomato Ketchup
3/4 Cup of Pineapple juice
1/8 Cup of White wine vinegar
1/4 Cup of Honey
1/4 Cup of Soft Brown Sugar
2 Tbsp GF Soy Sauce
1tsp Cornflour
1Tbsp of Cold Water
Other Ingredients needed:
1 Yellow Pepper
1 Green Pepper
1 Red Onion
Method:
To begin with place all the ingredients apart from the cornflour and water into a saucepan and simmer gently for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes of the sauce simmering mix the water with cornstarch and add to the sauce and simmer for another 5 minutes.
Once you have done this take off the hob and leave to cool until needed.
Whilst the sauce is cooling you can create the tofu by cutting the Tofu into slices and place in the cornflour and Chinese seasoning until fully coated .
Once the tofu is coated, heat up a frying pan with 4tbsp of sunflower oil and fry on both sides for 3 minutes each.
Once all batches heat warm up the sweet and sour sauce and flash fry the peppers and onions, but leave them crunchy.
Once the tofu is cooked and the vegetbales cooked place in a bowl and then place the sweet and sour sauce over the top and serve with rice.
